Our team here at Clark Septic is experienced and highly skilled at solving problems with the various parts of your home septic system. We offer repair services to address whatever issues your system is dealing with, but we also recommend taking steps to prevent problems before they arise. Your drain field is one of the most important parts of your overall system, and below are a few of our top tips for maintaining it.
- Don’t put anything on top of it. You can plant small flowers and grass over your drain field, but you won’t want to put anything with significant weight on top of it. Don’t build a shed or other structures over your drain field, and certainly don’t park your vehicle over it. Doing so could put a lot of pressure on your drain field and cause damages.
- Drain water from pools away from the drain field. If you have a pool, make sure it drains away from the drain field. Draining too close to the drain field can overwhelm the system with water. Too much water oversaturates the surrounding field and strains your drain field system.
- Be careful of what you put down your drains. Your drainage system is not a trash can. The only things that should be going down your drainage system are waste and water. Be especially wary of any chemicals, as they can contaminate the water that goes through your drain field and by extension contaminate groundwater.
- Hire inspection services periodically. The best thing you can do to maintain your drain field is to hire professional services to check it out periodically. Inspections involve taking a look at all of the components at work in your system and making sure there are no problems present, including hidden ones that may have gone unnoticed for a while. Inspections help identify issues before they worsen. If your drain field hasn’t been inspected in a while, give our team a call.
